Oh hey look, a blog!!

Alright so, admittedly, I am not the best at keeping up these blog situations but today I had an epiphany. (simulation of said epiphany) "What if I had a blog and it was named, 'this is not a pot'?" "Wouldn't I be the most clever lady ever?"

The answer is yes. I am the most clever. lady. ever.

All sarcasm aside, this is something I've been meaning to get back into. Maybe people will read it, maybe not, but I'd like to use it as a record of my ideas with hope that it will help me become more diligent about writing.

I've always liked the painting titled, The Treachery of Images  (La trahison des images), 1928–29 by Rene Magritte (see below)

This painting encapsulates much of what I admire about art (both appreciating and making). At first, it's humorous, and you may thing to yourself "of course it's a pipe, dummy!" followed by a superiority chuckle.

Upon further consideration you realize that you, in fact, are the dummy and Magritte has had the last laugh along with infamy for creating a very famous and significant piece of art (one of many, I might add).

Also, (and more importantly) through this work, Magritte comments on the reflexive and often deceitful nature of art. You see that this is a pipe, you read that this is a pipe but, truthfully, it is not a pipe.

Here is what some folks at the Kahn Academy have to say about this piece.

I don't have much more to say for my opening blog other than thank you for reading and visiting. I hope you enjoy what I have to offer here, and I sincerely welcome any feedback or additions to what is posted.

Until next time...

Seana.
